Information On The HP 5n Printer

The HP LaserJet 5n printer using HP LaserJet 5n toner is one of the workhorse printers in the Hewlett-Packard lineup of network workgroup machines. It is a monochrome black and white printer that will work nicely in a small business or as the primary printer in a workgroup within a large organization, for the most part. It can juggle multiple tasks with ease and also comes at a nice price.

Print speed for the 5n is more than adequate at around 12 or so pages per minute in black and white. For media sizes of up to legal-sized paper it can go a bit faster, turning out copy at nearly 14 pages per minute. These are more than adequate standards for the kind of work that this particular printer will be expected to accomplish.

Network interfacing is a relatively easy activity to accomplish, too, and the printer offers a variety of different methods for doing so. There are parallel, Ethernet and USB input ports and getting it running can be done fairly quickly and with little drama. Someone spending just a few minutes with the owner’s manual and the included CD-ROM installation disc will have no problem.

The printer features 600 dots per inch (dpi) for printing. With this type of print resolution, the completed projects will have a clean and precise appearance, which is more than many other printers in this particular segment are capable of pulling off. Font types are exceptional, with more than 45 types available for a myriad of application choices.

The 5n comes standard with a workmanlike 33 MHz microprocessor, which is usually sufficient to handle the needs of small business or workgroup multi-taskings. This is another reason why the 5n is probably best-suited to small business and large workgroups within a business than as a large network printer.

Standard memory is 2 MB, and it can be upgraded to 66 MB, which it should be when possible. Large simultaneous print tasks may cause a slight delay before they’re prioritized, but that problem’s easily handled once memory’s been increased to a level sufficient to handle the number of total print jobs that the printer will be expected to handle on an average basis.

No matter the printing media selected, the HP 5n should be able to take up the job and handle it. It prints out on envelopes, transparencies, standard paper and labels in a competent, no-nonsense manner, too. As far as how much paper the 5n can store, it’s rated at 350 sheets in the included trays. Monthly duty cycle is also excellent, at 35,000 pages before any maintenance will be needed.

The HP LaserJet 5n printer works well with many different Windows-based operating systems and has a transport protocol called “Apple Talk” that enables it to communicate with Mac machines. Currently, prices for this very versatile and reliable printer are as low as $150, although other retail outlets are listing it for around $400, so keep that in mind when shopping for it.

Value, as in dollar to performance, is a consideration for operation of a printer and it’s here where the HP LaserJet 5n toner cartridges shines.  Reprints due to smudges are costly, however, HP printer toner cartridge seems to eliminate that worry.  Using great toner cartridges makes your overall costs lower.

Deciding To Change Out Or Alternatively Keep Your Xerox Phaser 4500 Printer

When it comes to technology, printers have never really been something to consider as revolutionary. They went from dot matrix to black and white, and from bubble jet to laser, but overall their purpose didn’t change, unlike computers. The Xerox Phaser 4500 printer is an example of an older model, still in use today, still producing a great end product with its Xerox Phaser 4500 toner.

The 4500 is a black and white model (or monochromatic) that’s designed for office printing. It prints relatively quickly as well, being a laser jet, so it’s perfect for those occasions when you need a hundred copies of a report, a hundred resumes, etc. It does its job for an office printer, but that’s it. It’s definitely obsolete if you’re looking to print photographs or heavily detail-oriented images.

What that means for a potential buyer is that you can’t get a new one. You can still get it used online or at some kind of electronics pawn shop though. But if you were planning on getting a new printer anyway, then a newer model would be better as their price is practically the same.

If you have the 4500, or are considering getting it, you’re probably getting it for office-related purposes anyway, which is why there are newer models out there such as the 4510 and 5550. All three models print in black and white, but the newer ones more than likely print faster or hold more paper, or have better toner, or something of that nature. Since the prices are relatively the same, it might be better to go new.

If you don’t want to make a complete switch, there are various offers for upgrading. Depending on how much you want to spend, you can have this particular model upgraded to have all sorts of things, from faster printing, to more efficient ink, to a bigger hard drive to hold a higher queue for printing. These are minor upgrades, so if you only want a few things, this might be cheaper. Or, it might be cheaper to get a new one in the end.

Getting a new one isn’t all that bad, though. This is because most places have a trade-in policy that allows you to trade in your older model printer to get a discount on a newer model. If you’re printer is too old or worn or whatever the case may be, you may not get that great of a discount. That’s the only real down side to this policy, as there’s no knowing what your printer is worth.

However, even if your printer is worth practically nothing, there’s likely to be at least something they can do for your case. Most companies would strongly encourage the transition, which is why they offer such a policy and why they will find some way to help. To be honest, though, it’s better to get close to nothing than nothing at all if your old model is trash anyway.

It is definitely easy to upgrade or transition, but deciding which route to take probably isn’t. If the Xerox Phaser 4500 printer is really that outdated for you, then price may not be an issue, and if it doesn’t make that much of a difference to you, then this may not even be something to consider. It all depends on what you plan to use it for, though chances are it’s for office-style printing, so it may turn out to just be a waste of time.
