For anyone who has ever fallen sick, or has had an accident, getting coverage to pay for the expenses at the hospital must be of paramount importance. But there is more to this problem. Medical billing companies are the third party who fill out the forms for the hospital or doctor, and the payer, the insurance company. Medical billing online is cost effective and eliminates unnecessary paperwork.
What happens is the patient goes to the hospital for some kind of treatment. Once he is examined, the forms are filled out with what the diagnosis is, what treatment is being given, and how long the patient may need care and attention.
The third party now gets these forms and gives each individual ailment or treatment a code number to identify it for the insurance company. Once the form has been completed, along with all the details of the patient, insurance company and coverage etc the form is sent to the insurance company for confirmation.
The insurance company will have its own experts who will study these forms and decide if the necessary treatment was correct. It will only cover certain procedures outlined in the cover that the patient has and will deny anything else. Very often they will find faults in the forms and they send them back to the third party company to redo the codes to keep the records straight. This can go on for several months until nothing else is wrong. The insurance then pays a discounted rate to the provider that has been discussed and agreed upon in relation to the contract.
Some schemes, like Medicare, still insist on the forms being filled out on hard copy. Bu this takes an inordinate amount of time until it has been altered to fit. Doing this all by computer has speeded up the process remarkably but as with all computers, it depends on the imput.
Some people will be concerned that their personal and private information will be available to for outside observation but the system for these kinds of transactions is normally well policed. It would not do the insurance company any good at all to let the information be accessed by just anyone so they will have guidelines to keep the patient information confidential.
Physicians too use this system since it would take up too much time to follow up on each individual patient and their insurance company to get their payments. Without the use of these third parties, the system would not work efficiently and people would be left uninsured and vulnerable.
Although the insurance industry does get bad press from time to time, this is the only way that people can get the coverage that they need. If people had to pay cash every time they went to the hospital, they would probably not go at all. So although the system might not be perfect, it is perhaps the only choice that most people will have.
